Full Frame Replacement Project

These are commomly known as complete or full tear outs and involve all of the same steps as standard window installation, plus a few others. Full frame replacement is necessary when the jambs and sills need to be removed due to deterioration, termite damage, water rot, etc. Many times this is the case on older homes that have compromised openings around old aluminum or wood frame windows.

Additional Steps Involved

With inserts, the installer removed the jamb liners, preps the jambs and inserts the window. With full frame replacement, the installers removes the jambs until they get down to the rough opening for the window. They fix the sills or walls and replace rotted or damage wood with new, sturdy replacements. The opening is prepped and often times a sill pan is installed on the bottom of the opening that moves water away from walls to the outside should moisture get in down the road.

The actual replacement is similar to an insert, with an added nailing flange or fin attached to the outside window unit. When the window is placed into the opening, the installer uses the nailing flange to securely attach the window in place. Jobs may also involve steps like exterior aluminum capping or trim or adding interior or exterior trim and casings. Full frame replacement is an involved process and has to be done right to insure that the new windows last for a lifetime.
