Bay Window Installation Cost

Bay window installation cost will typically run somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 to $1000, although high end custom bays could run north of $2000. Our replacement window calculator can calculate bay windows, but does not do a very good with installation pricing. Because homeowners only get one or two bay windows, figuring out the project cost is usually a fairly straightforward endeavor.

Bay Window Basics

Bay windows usually consist of three or four windows mulled together that sit at an angle from one another. Often, the center window is larger than the two side windows, although very often they are all the same size. Bays are an excellent addition to a home as they add an exterior focal point as well as added interior space.

In general, bay windows are sold as a single unit that is installed in much the same way as a traditional full frame replacement window. Of course, a bay window is much larger and typically requires a three person team. The installers first need to remove the existing windows, which might be an older, outdated bay window or three stand alone windows. If no changes need to be made to the size of the opening, the installers will prep the opening and install the bay in a similar fashion to standard installation. Bays require some added steps such as braces or a top pulley mechanism to insure that the bay is properly supported.

Why Pricing Can Be High

Prices start to balloon if the window opening needs to be resized to accomodate the new bay. Changes to the opening require some serious carpentry and finishing skills that require time, labor and expertise. In addition, custom bays that must be mulled together at the factory or onsite require additional work and usually that cost is passed onto the customer. The bay window itself will cost anywhere from $600 for a vinyl bay to $2400 for a wood clad bay.
